| THE PRINCIPLE IS SIMPLE, Unlike Welden's multi-stage steam generators, that have the ability to vary the combustion air and fuel supply, the SS series has a fixed air supply, however, because fuel supplies to burners can be turned off, smaller units have two outputs and larger units have four outputs. The cut-away picture shows the simplified principles of a Welden Direct Fired Steam Generator. Starting at the top, is the fixed combustion air supply from the positive displacement blower, next the fuel supply which is natural gas or propane, from a factory set gas regulator and then through factory drilled orifices to produce an accurate gas/air ratio. The premixed gas/air is then burned, the results of which is carbon monoxide that is well below the 50 PPM allowed by OSHA, usually 0. The "cold water in" is factory set on a flow meter by drilled orfices and a pressure regulator. It is first used to cool the burner and then the burning chamber, it then flows over the top of the water jacket, it is, at this time, exposed to the products of combustion. The cycle is completed in the bottom section, called the vaporizer, where the water is turned into steam and combined with the products of combustion and discharged out of a pipe. |
